Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are age 65 or older, younger people with disabilities and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Most people will need to get Medicare when they are age 65. You can enroll 3 months prior to your Birthday up to 3 months after your Birthday. It will help you cover your health care costs. You will have different options to choose from when you enroll in Medicare. It is important that you understand what it covers and the 2 main ways to get your coverage. 1. Original Medicare (includes Part A and Part B) or 2. Medicare Advantage (an “all in one” alternative to Original Medicare). There are different parts to Medicare: Part A (Hospital Insurance)-Most people do not pay for this; Part B (Medical Insurance)-There is a monthly premium.
